New Delhi, May 30: Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will begin a five-day official visit to India on Saturday, marking his first visit to the country since assuming office, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The visit, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will begin in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, highlighting the cultural and civilisational linkages between the two nations.

During the visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing will hold bilateral talks with PM Modi on June 1, focusing on strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors and enhancing overall India–Myanmar relations.

He will also participate in a business forum in India and engage with industry leaders. The Myanmar President will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers, senior officials and business representatives.

On June 2, he is scheduled to travel to Mumbai for business interactions and site visits, aimed at deepening trade and investment linkages.

The MEA said Myanmar holds strategic importance under India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies, and the visit is expected to further expand multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries.

President U Min Aung Hlaing’s visit follows recent high-level exchanges between the two sides, including MoS for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh’s visit to Myanmar in April, during which he conveyed a letter of felicitation from PM Modi.

India has reiterated its commitment to supporting Myanmar’s development through bilateral assistance and continued engagement under its regional connectivity and outreach frameworks.

Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing was elected earlier in April after stepping down as commander-in-chief, having led the country since the 2021 military takeover.

The visit also comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries, including a meeting between PM Modi and Myanmar’s leadership on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in China last year, where both sides reviewed bilateral ties.
