Jakarta, July 07: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, by President Prabowo Subianto during his official visit to Jakarta. Instituted in 1959, the prestigious award recognises individuals for extraordinary service and marks another significant international honour for the Indian Prime Minister.
The latest recognition further adds to Prime Minister Modi’s growing list of more than 30 international honours, making him the most internationally decorated Indian leader. The awards include state decorations, academic recognitions and environmental honours presented by governments and international organisations worldwide.
Earlier this year, Seychelles honoured PM Modi with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, the country’s highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. The Prime Minister dedicated that award to nations committed to addressing climate change and protecting the environment for future generations.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Prabowo Subianto held comprehensive bilateral talks aimed at further strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Discussions focused on defence cooperation, maritime security, energy, trade, critical minerals, digital economy and regional collaboration across the Indo-Pacific.
PM Modi also received an unprecedented ceremonial welcome in Jakarta, where President Prabowo personally welcomed him at the airport before hosting him at the Merdeka Palace. The Prime Minister described the gesture as deeply touching and expressed confidence that the visit would inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations established under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership launched in 2018.
As part of the visit, both leaders are scheduled to visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, highlighting the shared cultural and civilisational heritage between India and Indonesia. Prime Minister Modi will also interact with the Indian diaspora before continuing his three-nation tour to Australia and New Zealand.
Conclusion
The conferment of the ‘Bintang Adipurna’ reflects the growing global recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and highlights the expanding strategic, economic and cultural partnership between India and Indonesia.
