New Delhi, July 04: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated the Rajasthan Refinery at Pachpadra in Balotra district to the nation and launched development projects worth more than ₹1.06 lakh crore, describing the refinery as a major milestone in India’s journey towards energy security and industrial self-reliance.
Addressing a massive public gathering, the Prime Minister said India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest refinery capacity holder, crediting timely policy decisions, strategic planning and effective diplomacy for helping the country successfully navigate the worst global energy crisis of the 21st century triggered by conflicts in West Asia.
Highlighting India’s energy resilience, PM Modi said that despite crude oil prices surging from around $70 to nearly $120 per barrel and severe disruptions in global supply chains, India maintained uninterrupted supplies of petrol, diesel and LPG. He noted that the government reduced excise duty, supported oil marketing companies and protected consumers from steep international price shocks.
The Prime Minister said India rapidly increased LPG production by reconfiguring refinery operations, raising output from around 35,000 metric tonnes to 54,000 metric tonnes within seven days. He also pointed to the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) networks and the diversification of crude oil imports from over 40 countries, strengthening India’s long-term energy security.
Speaking about agriculture and industry, PM Modi said the government shielded farmers by ensuring urea remained available at around ₹300 per bag despite global prices exceeding ₹3,000, backed by substantial subsidies. He also highlighted expanded support for MSMEs through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), which enabled additional government-backed bank credit during difficult economic conditions.
The Prime Minister also showcased Rajasthan’s development, highlighting water conservation projects, Jaipur Metro expansion, Jodhpur airport terminal, UDAN connectivity, solar energy initiatives, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM. He said more than 1.5 lakh homes in Rajasthan have adopted solar power while over 65,000 solar pumps have been provided to farmers, reinforcing the state’s role in India’s clean energy transition.
