Mangaluru, 6 July 2026: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) commemorated the 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar with great reverence at the MRPL Employees’ Recreation Centre (MERC) in Mangaluru, celebrating his enduring contributions to social justice, equality, constitutional values and nation-building.

The programme was presided over by Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath, Managing Director, MRPL, with Dr. Vaddagere Nagarajaiah, noted researcher, ethnographer and social activist, as the Chief Guest. Nandakumar V. Pillai, Director (Refinery), MRPL, and Dr. B. S. Hemalatha, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Dakshina Kannada, attended as Guests of Honour.
The event began with the distribution of prizes, a welcome address and floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar after the ceremonial lamp lighting. As part of the celebrations, MRPL felicitated 20 meritorious students, including 10 SSLC and 10 PUC students who secured over 90 per cent marks, while also recognising eminent social workers for their outstanding contribution to community welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Nandakumar V. Pillai highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s remarkable contributions to education, constitutional governance, ethical leadership and social justice. Dr. B. S. Hemalatha spoke about his pioneering efforts in advancing women’s rights and empowerment, while Dr. Vaddagere Nagarajaiah emphasised the continuing relevance of equality, liberty, fraternity and inclusive development in modern India.
In his presidential address, Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath reaffirmed MRPL’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable and progressive workplace inspired by the ideals of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, followed by the acclaimed theatrical performance ‘EEDI’ by M/s Sumanasa, Kodavoor, Udupi, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience.
