MRPL Cyclothon, as a part of SAKSHAM 2021, was organised on 31.1.2021 in Mangalore City. SAKSHAM is a celebration to promote Energy conservation among the industry and general public, under the aegis of MOPNG (Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas).
MRPL organised this cycle rally in association with various clubs and Cycling enthusiasts of Mangalore. More than 500 enthusiasts, from the age of 5 to senior citizens participated in the event. Mangalore Bicycle Club, We Are Cycling, Mangalore Cycling Club and Cycling Buddies were the Cycling Clubs joined hands with MRPL for the Cyclothon. MRPL Security together with Mangalore City Police ensured the smooth movement of Cyclists during the Cyclothon.
Shri Vedavyas Kamath, Hon’ble MLA – Mangalore City South flagged off the Rally in the presence of Shri Sanjay Varma, Director Refinery, Shri Rajeev Kushwah, ITS, Chief Vigilance Officer and Shri Shyam Prasad Kamath, GGM-Tech Services.
The Rally started at 0645 hrs in front of Mangala Stadium and ended at Canara High School after covering a distance of 7 km. The cycling route followed was through KulurFerry Road, Infosys office near Kottara and then back to Canara High School, Urwa.
While speaking on the occasion Shri Vedavyas Kamath, Hon’ble MLA said that it’s a good initiative by MRPL to organise such a grand Cycle Rally under SAKSHAM. Under Smart City Project separate Cycling tracks will be formed in the City to encourage the Cyclists, he said. Shri Sanjay Varma, Director Refinery said that the main aim of this Cycle Rally is to create awareness among the young minds about the conservation of petroleum products and MRPL continues to promote activities which protect our environment, he said.
The T – Shirts, Masks and Caps were distributed to all the participants and Refreshment was also arranged. MRPL Hospital and other departments of MRPL joined hands with Technical Services department in successfully organizing this event.
SAKSHAM 2021 with the theme ‘Green and Clean Energy’ is being observed in MRPL from 16th January to 15th February 2021. PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) takes the lead in organising SAKSHAM in Oil and Gas sector and has scheduled Cyclothon on 31st January 2021 all over the country.
