New Delhi, March 07: State-run oil marketing companies Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) on Friday dismissed social media reports of petrol and diesel shortages in parts of the country, calling the claims “baseless” and “completely unfounded”.
In a statement posted on X, BPCL said India’s energy supply remains stable with adequate petroleum reserves and uninterrupted supply chains. The company added that its operations are running normally and fuel supplies to consumers remain smooth.
Separately, IOCL also clarified that the country has sufficient fuel stocks and that the supply and distribution network is functioning normally. The company urged citizens not to panic or crowd fuel stations and to rely only on official sources for verified information.
Government sources earlier indicated that India currently maintains around 25 days of crude oil reserves and another 25 days of petroleum product stocks, including shipments that are in transit to domestic ports. This provides a “reasonably comfortable” buffer despite disruptions to tanker movements through the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions involving Iran.
