Vietnam President To Lam Praises India’s Rise as Global Innovation Hub
New Delhi, May 06 Vietnamese President To Lam on Wednesday lauded India’s rapid progress, calling it a “centre of growth and innovation in the world,” while underlining the importance both nations attach to their bilateral relationship. He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi following high-level talks in the capital.
Impressed by India’s Rapid Progress
Expressing admiration, To Lam congratulated India for its remarkable development.
“I am very impressed… India has been soaring ahead as a centre of growth and innovation in the world,” he said, adding that discussions with Prime Minister Modi were “very successful.”
He highlighted the significance of 50 years of diplomatic relations and a decade of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting that both countries will continue to prioritise their ties.
Strategic Alignment on Global Issues
The Vietnamese President said both leaders shared their perspectives on regional and global developments and achieved a high level of mutual understanding.
He emphasised the need to align strategic visions and development approaches to better navigate current global uncertainties.
Defence and Security Elevated as Key Pillar
A major outcome of the talks was the decision to strengthen defence and security cooperation.
To Lam announced that both sides agreed to elevate this sector into a “strategic pillar” to contribute to peace and stability in the region.
He also stressed the importance of deepening political trust, boosting high-level exchanges, and improving existing cooperation mechanisms.
Technology and Innovation to Drive Future Cooperation
Identifying new areas of collaboration, To Lam said science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation would serve as key drivers of future partnership.
Both countries also plan to enhance economic cooperation by strengthening value chains, removing trade barriers, and expanding market access.
Closer Coordination at Global Forums
To Lam said India and Vietnam will work closely at regional and international platforms to promote peace, stability, and development.
He underscored the importance of adhering to international law and ensuring the voices and rights of developing countries are respected.
Boost to Cultural and People-to-People Ties
The Vietnamese leader highlighted efforts to strengthen cultural, educational, and people-to-people connections, calling them essential for building a strong social foundation for bilateral relations.
Vietnam Supports India’s Growing Global Role
Reaffirming Vietnam’s stance, To Lam expressed support for India taking on a larger role in global affairs.
He stressed cooperation in addressing shared challenges and reiterated the importance of maintaining peace, ensuring freedom of navigation, and resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law, including UNCLOS 1982.
