New Delhi, Feb 24: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a new Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport with a total project outlay of ₹1,677 crore, marking a major investment in aviation infrastructure in the Kashmir Valley.
The project will be executed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and includes the construction of security barracks along with a modern integrated terminal. Spread over 73.18 acres, the new terminal will cover 71,500 square metres (including 20,659 square metres of existing structure) and is designed to handle 2,900 passengers during peak hours, with an annual capacity of 10 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
Capacity Expansion and Operational Upgrades
The expanded apron will accommodate 15 aircraft parking bays, including one Code E wide-body position (nine existing and six proposed). The 3,658m x 45m runway will continue to be operated by the Indian Air Force, as the airport functions within the Budgam Airbase framework. A multi-level car parking facility with capacity for 1,000 vehicles is also part of the approved scope.
