The Ministry of Railways has entrusted Rahul Himalian with the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) following the resignation of Sanjay Kumar Jain. The appointment will take effect from July 20, 2026, ensuring continuity in the leadership of the Navratna public sector enterprise.
A 1999-batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, Rahul Himalian brings more than 26 years of extensive experience across the Indian Railways and IRCTC. His expertise spans railway operations, tourism, administration, infrastructure, and strategic management, making him well suited to lead the organisation during this transition.
Since February 16, 2024, Himalian has served as Director (Tourism & Marketing) and a Whole-Time Functional Director on the Board of IRCTC, a Schedule ‘A’ Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. He currently oversees Tourism, Information Technology, Human Resource Development, Infrastructure, Administration and Rajbhasha, playing a key role in the corporation’s growth initiatives.
Rahul Himalian also has an exceptional academic background. He studied at The Lawrence School, graduated in Electrical Engineering with a Gold Medal from NIT Hamirpur, and completed his post-graduation in Engineering from IIT Delhi with a perfect CGPA of 10.00. He was also honoured with the President’s Gold Medal for being the Best All-Round Student.
With his appointment as additional CMD, Rahul Himalian will guide the overall operations, strategic planning and future growth of IRCTC while continuing to discharge his duties as Director (Tourism & Marketing). The corporation has expressed confidence that his leadership will help IRCTC achieve new milestones in railway tourism, catering, and digital services.
