New Delhi, 16th Dec, 2020: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has been awarded with the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for the year 2020 in the Steel Sector by the Institute of Directors.
Shri Anil Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman, SAIL lauded the efforts of SAIL collective and said, “SAIL has been the winner of this award for successive two years and this bears testimony to the efforts made by the Company for sustainable and environmentally responsible steel making. This award is one of the most coveted awards in the category. Considering various environmental issues leading to global warming and climate change, the award encourages corporates to enhance their environmental performance and to compete with peers to set benchmarks”.
SAIL, as its Corporate Responsibility for Environment Protection continuously focuses on adopting various environmental measures including, upgrading of pollution control facilities, treatment & recirculation of wastewater from individual units & outfalls, enhancement in the green cover in & around Plants & Units, efficient handling of different solid wastes (viz. process waste, hazardous waste, canteen/township waste), carbon sequestration through afforestation, eco-restoration of mined out area, among others. Also, the impact of SAIL’s initiatives and best practices on improving cleaner environment, reducing emissions & discharges, mitigating impacts of climate change and helping the Company to conduct its operations in environmentally benign manner has been recognized.
The award was conferred on SAIL in a virtual award presentation ceremony held on 15th December, 2020.
सेल को गोल्डन पीकॉक एनवायरनमेंट मैनेजमेंट अवार्ड 2020 सम्मान
नई दिल्ली,16 दिसंबर,2020: स्टील अथॉरिटी ऑफ़ इंडिया लिमिटेड (सेल) को इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ़ डायरेक्टर्स द्वारा गोल्डन पीकॉक एनवायरनमेंट मैनेजमेंट 2020 सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया। सेल को यह प्रतिष्ठित सम्मान इस्पात वर्ग की श्रृंखला में प्राप्त हुआ है।
सेल अध्यक्ष श्री अनिल कुमार चौधरी ने सेल समूह के प्रयासों को सराहते हुए कहा कि “सेल ने लगातार दो बार ये पुरस्कार जीता है और यह कंपनी द्वारा किये जा रहे सतत और पर्यावरणीय दृष्टि से ज़िम्मेदार इस्पात बनाने के प्रयासों की पुष्टि करती है। यह पुरस्कार इस श्रेणी में दिए जानेवाले प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कारों में से एक है। ग्लोबल वार्मिंग और जलवायु परिवर्तन के लिए विभिन्न पर्यावरणीय मुद्दों को ध्यान में रखते हुए यह पुरस्कार कंपनियों को उनके एनवायर्नमेंटल परफॉरमेंस को बेहतर करने और अपने क्षेत्र की बाकि कंपनियों के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा की कसौटी में बेहतर प्रदर्शन के लिए प्रेरित करती है”।
सेल लगातार अपने कॉर्पोरेट रिस्पांसिबिलिटी फॉर एनवायरनमेंट प्रोटेक्शन (Corporate Responsibility for Environment Protection) के तहत कई तरह की पर्यावरणीय उपायों को लागू करती रही है। उनमे से कुछ मुख्य जैसे स्वच्छ प्रौद्योगिकियों की स्थापना, प्रदूषण नियंत्रण सुविधाओं का उन्नयन, अलग-अलग इकाइयों और ऑउटफॉल से अपशिष्ट जल का उपचार और पुनर्रचना, प्लांट व यूनिटों और उनके आसपास हरियाली बढ़ाना, विभिन्न ठोस अपशिष्टों जैसे – अलग अलग प्रक्रियाओं के अपशिष्ट, खतरनाक अपशिष्ट, कैंटीन तथा टाउनशिप के अपशिष्ट की बेहतर हैंडलिंग, वनीकरण द्वारा कार्बन सीक्वेस्ट्रेशन (Carbon sequestration), खनन किये गए जगह का ईको – रेस्टोरेशन आदि हैं। इसके अलावा सेल के पहल और बेहतरीन कार्यप्रणालियों जैसे स्वच्छ वातावरण में सुधार, उत्सर्जन और निर्वहन को कम करना, जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभावों को कम करना और कंपनी के संचालन को पर्यावरणीय रूप से बेहतर करने आदि को सराहा गया है।
सेल को यह पुरस्कार 15 दिसंबर, 2020 को आयोजित एक वर्चुअल पुरस्कार प्रस्तुति समारोह में प्रदान किया गया।
