Prime Minister Launches Key NEEPCO Hydropower Projects in Arunachal

New Delhi, Sept 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh on September 22, 2025, to lay the foundation stone for two significant hydro power projects by NEEPCO: the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), costing over Rs 3,700 Crore.

In his address, he emphasized the importance of every state, particularly the Northeast, in achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, underlining goals for renewable energy production.

The Heo project will produce approximately 1000 MUs annually, while Tato-I will generate around 803 MUs, both aimed at enhancing Arunachal’s status as a power producer, creating jobs, and providing affordable electricity.

Collectively, these projects will significantly contribute to India’s clean energy targets and socio-economic development in the region. Key attendees included the Governor and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

NEEPCO, a subsidiary of NTPC Limited since 2020, has been a vital player in Northeast power generation, with an installed capacity of 2,057 MW and a vision for greater renewable energy capacity.
