Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy made a big move on Monday afternoon. He met Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan at Lok Nivas. During this meeting, Rangasamy handed over a list. This list has the names of departments for five ministers. These ministers did not have any work assignments for weeks. It’s a big step for the local government.
The ministers and the delay
Opposition leaders did not like this delay. They criticized the government for the slow progress. These five ministers waited in limbo for a long time. Some departments faced problems without clear leaders. Welfare programs also suffered from this issue. Now, the chief minister wants to end this waiting game.
The ministers took their oaths in two separate groups. A Namassivayam of the BJP joined the cabinet first. Malladi Krishna Rao of the AINRC also took his oath on the same day. This event happened on May 13. The other three ministers waited a bit longer. They took their oaths on June 17. These three are P Rajavelu, PV Sivakozhundu, and GNS Rajasekaran. Since then, they did not have any official work. Unofficial videos on the internet claimed to know their future departments. However, the government did not release any real documents until now. This list is the first official step.
The Chief Minister spoke to reporters after his meeting on Monday. He told them about the list. Rangasamy did not share the exact details. He wants people to wait for the official notification. This paper will come out from Lok Nivas soon. The Lieutenant Governor must approve the list first.
Upcoming budget session
This decision is important for the upcoming assembly session. The Chief Minister will present the budget for the years 2026 and 2027. The central government recently approved the budget amount. Puducherry will receive 14,300 crore rupees. Earlier this year, the assembly passed a smaller budget in February. This vote on account was for 5,396 crore rupees. That money paid for expenses from April to August. Now, the government needs the full budget to run the state. The new ministers will help manage these funds.
