Aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision to develop the ancient holy townof Badrinathas a Spiritual Smart Hill Town, Maharatna CPSE, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) signed an MoU with Kedarnath Utthan Charitable Trust on 17th March, 2021. The MoU was signed between K. Sreekant, CMD POWERGRID and Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary, Tourism & CEO, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, Govt. of Uttarakhandfor developmental projects like construction of road and enhancement of publicbuildingsfaçade on both sides of the road.
The developmental projects worth about ₹19.3 crores will include construction of 2.5 km long 10.5 m wide Road. It will prevent traffic jams and help in efficient traffic management. High points of this project will be façade enhancement on Public and Devasthanam Board Buildings, Battery operated public transport, installation of property signages, wayfinding signages, ambient lighting, tap-off water supply service and drainagethat will highlight the aesthetics of this Char Dham pilgrimage town and maintain its uniqueness.
The pilgrimage town of Badrinath is located in a tough terrain, inaccessible by roads during October-March every year. Despite the problem, projectswill be completed in 3 years. It is estimated that the projects will benefit around 15.6 Lakh pilgrims every year visiting Badrinath 2025 onwards.
POWERGRID, the ‘Maharatna’ CPSE of Govt. of India is one of the Largest Transmission Utilities in the World. It operates about 1,70,000 ckm. Transmission Linesand 252 Sub-stations with a transformation capacity of 4,28,000 MVA maintaining the system availability at over 99%, at par with international utilities. National Grid established in the country by POWERGRID at present has an Inter-Regional power transfer capacity of about 103,550 MW which is envisaged to be enhanced to 1,18,050 MW by 2022.
