Neyveli, August 15 Feasibility studies for two Pilot Plants for developing value added products from Lignite Viz. Upgradation of Brown Coal Process to enhance the calorific value for use in Super Critical boilers for Power Generation and to find the sustainability of lignite to use as a substitute for Metallurgical Coke have been taken up by NLC announced by Shri B.Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC during his address at the Independence Day Celebration 2015.
The daylong celebrations commenced with the garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi bust at Township Administration Office premises by Shri B. Surender Mohan. Later, he hoisted the National flag at Bharati Stadium and inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the guard of honour presented by Central Industrial Security Forces, NLC Security Personnel, Home Guards, Scout and Guides, NSS Volunteers and Schools & College Students.
During his address, CMD recalled the agonizing annals of freedom struggle, suffered by the freedom fighters, forefathers, elders to liberate our country from the British. He paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel and the host of National leaders who made personal sacrifices to set us free from the foreign rule. He wanted every citizen to pay rich homage to them as we are all greatly indebted to them.
He mentioned that NLC has taken the initiatives in the biggest National Campaign drives Swachh Bharat – Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan. As part of National Solar Projects, it has proposed to set up 100 MW Solar Project at Neyveli for which identification of suitable land is in progress.
Under Digital India program, NLC has established the State of the Art Data Center at the cost of Rs.1.65 Crore to optimize the resource utilization and to increase IT flexibility. Yoga Training Centre in the Ayurvedic Dispensary has been conducting free Yoga Training Programme for the employees and their wards.
Commercial Operation Development (COD) of both Units of TPS-II Expn. has now been achieved by which the power generation capacity of NLC has risen from 2740 MW TO 3240 MW. Further COD of 1st 500 MW Unit of NTPL, Tuticorin has also been achieved and the commissioning of the 2nd Unit is in advanced stage to attain COD at the earliest.
NLC during 2014-15 has achieved the targets in lignite production and overburden removal. Also it has achieved the ever highest net profit of Rs.1579.68 crore.
The 2 X 500 MW of Neyveli New Thermal Power Project is being committed as replacement for the existing TPS-I with the commissioning scheduled during October2017 and April 2018. Also out of 51 MW Wind Project at Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu 9 wind turbines of 1.5 MW each have been commissioned. The 10 MW Solar Power Project in Neyveli is expected to be commissioned shortly. For the 3 X 660 MW Coal based Ghatampur Power project of NUPPL, GOI has accorded environmental clearance for the project and commencement of the Prioject activities have been taken up. Administrative sanction for Land Acquisition for the 4000 MW coal based Sirkali Power Project, Tamil Nadu is expected soon. On implementation of new projects, at the end of the 13th Plan, NLC’s power generation capacity would become 12221 MW and annual lignite production would be 49.50 Million Tonnes.
During the year 2014-15, NLC has won Greentech CSR Award 2014, Best Enterprsise Award from SCOPE, BT Star PSU Award, Excellence Cost Management Award 2014 and Vigilance Excellence Award.
He has also outlined various employees’ welfare measures such as Merit Scholorship Schemes for the wards of employees and Contract Workmen, ESI Dispensary, Provision of Payment of Gratuity Act, Leave with wages for the benefit of the Contract Workmen. He congratulated the students who have excelled in academics, sports & games and the employees who participated in the competitions held at National Level.
He expressed his deep concern about the employees who are on the strike path for the past 25 days insisting upon their unreasonable demands and appealed to them to return to work considering their own interest and their families and the welfare of the company.
Shri M.A.Basheer, Service Worker, New Service Unit, the senior most worker of the Company and his spouse Smt. B.Khathija were honoured by Madam CMD and CMD during the celebrations. NLC Directors, Shri Rakesh Kumar, Shri S.Rajagopal, Shri S.Boopathy and Shri Subir Das, along with their spouse and Shri Shivraj Singh, CVO, NLC participated in the function and distributed the prizes.
Earlier Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, Director (HR) welcomed the gathering. NLC’s Senior Officials, Executives, Supervisors, Employees, Workers, Representatives of Union and Associations and the residents of NLC were present in the Bharathi Stadium to witnesses the celebrations. About 4600school children presented colorful cultural programme which were appreciated by all.
To mark this occasion, the members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the in-patients of NLC GH and wished them for a speedy recovery. Kootu Vazhipadu and Samapandhi Bhojanam were organized in Neyveli Group of Temples. The highlight of the evening function was the distribution of certificates to the students by the Neyveli Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachara Sabha at Lignite hall, Block 11, Neyveli.
