New Delhi, March 15: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Saturday said petrol and diesel are adequately available at retail outlets across India and advised consumers not to store fuel in loose or inappropriate containers due to safety risks.
In a post on X, the ministry said all fuel stations have sufficient stocks and there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country.
The advisory follows an incident at a retail outlet in Tamil Nadu where petrol was reportedly dispensed into a loose container. Authorities have suspended the concerned petrol pump and initiated action for violating safety norms.
The ministry has also instructed all dealers and retail outlets to strictly adhere to safety guidelines while dispensing fuel, warning that violations will attract strict action.
Officials reiterated that there have been no reports of fuel dry-outs at any of the nearly one lakh retail outlets operated by oil marketing companies across the country.
India currently has a refining capacity of about 258 million metric tonnes per annum and ranks among the world’s largest refining hubs, ensuring adequate availability of petroleum products.
The government also recently issued a Natural Gas Control Order under the Essential Commodities Act to ensure uninterrupted supply of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG), while supplies to industrial and commercial consumers are being regulated.
