The Frontier Basin Project of Oil India Ltd (OIL) which was set up in order to accelerate the Company’s exploration especially in frontier ranking exploratory acreages, spudded Well SDYA-1 under Block No: AA-ON N-2010/3 (awarded under NELP-IX) at Sadiya, Tinsukia District on 3rd February 2022. The well is located between 2 No Bishnupur Borgohain and 01 No BishnupurPahukhuwa Gaon under Sadiya on the north-eastern bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra. The spudding ceremony was graced by Bolin Chetia, MLA, Sadiya, Narsingh Pawar,IAS,DC Tinsukia, Mohan Lall Meena,IPS,SP,Sadiya District Police, Prasanta Borkakoty, RCE, OIL, Susma Rawat, ED (BM_A&AA),ONGCLand officials fromM/S BPRL.
This ultra-deep Well with a target depth of 6450 metres is planned to be drilled in two-phases. The first phase of exploratory drilling covers a depth of 4500m will be drilled by deploying a 2000 HP rig. Subsequently a 3000 HP rig is proposed to be deployed to drill down the remaining deeper target depth. The Block is operated under a consortium between OIL (PI-40%), ONGCL :(PI-40%), Bharat Petro Resources Limited (PI-20%).
Interesting facts about the well SDYA-1
- On reaching target drilling depth; this well will be the deepest onland drilling well to be drilled by Oil India as an Operator. Earlier it was Mechaki-3 which was drilled down to a depth of 5636 Mtrs in 2013-14.
- This will be the deepest well to be drilled in NE India.
This is the 2nd well to be spudded by Frontier Basin Project next to Thenzawl, Well No MZ-8 which was spudded on 25.07.2019 in Mizoram.
