New Delhi, July 24: The Government of India has released ₹266.64 crore as incentives under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Medical Devices up to FY2024-25, while ₹209.80 crore has been disbursed under the Medical Device Parks Scheme, Union Minister JP Nadda informed the Lok Sabha. The schemes are designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce import dependence and enhance India’s healthcare infrastructure.
Replying in writing to the Lok Sabha, Nadda said that ₹177.98 crore of the funds released for Medical Device Parks has already been utilised. In addition, under the Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry (SMDI), projects worth ₹101.50 crore have been approved under the Marginal Investment Scheme for Reducing Import Dependence (MIS-RID), while ₹88.67 crore has been sanctioned under the Common Facilities for Medical Devices Clusters (CFMDC) component. So far, ₹20.62 crore has been released under these initiatives.
The minister highlighted that the Medical Devices PLI Scheme, with a total outlay of ₹3,420 crore, provides financial incentives on incremental sales across four key segments—cancer care and radiotherapy, radiology and imaging, anaesthetics, cardio-respiratory and renal care devices, and implants. The objective is to encourage high-end medical device manufacturing in India.
According to the government, 27 applications have been approved under the PLI scheme, including 14 from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These approved projects have generated actual investments of ₹1,153.07 crore and have enabled domestic production of MRI scanners, CT scanners, linear accelerators (LINACs), mammography systems, C-arms, ultrasound machines, heart valves and stents, reducing reliance on imported medical equipment.
The Medical Device Parks Scheme, with an outlay of ₹300 crore, supports the creation of shared infrastructure, including testing laboratories, sterilisation facilities, warehousing, incubation centres and prototyping units. Under the scheme, the Centre provides financial assistance of up to ₹100 crore for each medical device park to improve manufacturing efficiency and lower production costs.
Currently, three Medical Device Parks are under implementation in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) and Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu). The government expects these parks to accelerate innovation, support startups and MSMEs, and strengthen India’s position as a global hub for medical device manufacturing.
With continued investments through the PLI Scheme and Medical Device Parks, the government is accelerating self-reliance in medical device manufacturing, encouraging advanced technology production and strengthening India’s healthcare manufacturing ecosystem.
