New Delhi, March 12: India’s crude oil supply remains secure and there is no fuel shortage in the country, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday, urging people not to spread rumours or create panic.
Speaking in the Parliament of India, the minister said India currently has sufficient crude stock and the secured volumes exceed what would normally have been delivered through the Strait of Hormuz.
Puri said India has strengthened its energy security by diversifying crude import sources beyond West Asia. The country now imports oil from nearly 40 countries, ensuring stability in fuel supplies despite geopolitical tensions in the region.
He added that domestic gas supplies remain stable, with uninterrupted availability of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) for consumers.
The minister emphasised that the government remains committed to ensuring affordable and uninterrupted energy supply to households across the country.
“There is no shortage for domestic consumers, and there is no reason to panic,” Puri said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs said India continues to provide assistance to Indian nationals in Iran while closely monitoring developments related to shipping safety and energy security amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.
An MEA spokesperson said S. Jaishankar has held multiple discussions with Iran’s Foreign Minister in recent days, including talks on the safety of shipping and India’s energy security in the region.
