“NLCIL PARTNERING THE PROGRESS OF BHARAT” Said Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL at the Nation’s 75th Independence Day Celebrations

Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL saluting the Tri-Colour at the Independence Day Celebrations 2021 held at Lawns of the Corporate Office, Neyveli.

“NLC India Ltd., is partnering the progress of the Nation for more than 60 years by generating and supplying uninterrupted power, an essential need of the Society” . This is the crux of the speech of Rakesh Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLCIL, during the 75th Independence Day Celebrations of the Nation at Neyveli on 15-08-2021.

The 75th Independence Day of our Nation was celebrated at NLCIL, Neyveli with great fervour and enthusiasm.  Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL, hoisted the tricolor at the lawns of the Corporate Office, Neyveli.

The stage function commenced with the welcome address by Shri R. Vikraman, Director/HR, NLCIL. wherein he recalled  the  sacrifices of freedom fighters and praised the exemplary work done by COVID warriors.

Shri Rakesh Kumar, in his Independence Day message, quoted the clarion call of Hon’ble Prime Minister, “the 75th Independence Day should be an inspiration for us, and our mantra should be ‘India first’ and it should be the basis of all our decisions”. He appealed the youth of our Nation to realize the significance of the Independence, the struggles undertook by the Great Leaders and Freedom fighters and to sustain the value of the Independence.

Amidst the COVID Pandemic time, this year’ s Independence Day is more significant as our Hon’ble Prime Minister had launched the yearlong celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ which means the ‘Elixir of the energy of freedom’, he added.

Shri Rakesh Kumar, thanked Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of  Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Raosaheb Patil Danve, Union Minister of State for Coal, Mines and Railways and  Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, Secretary to Government of India , Ministry of  Coal for their guidance and support.

He also informed that, as a Central Public Sector Enterprise, NLCIL has been partnering the progress of our nation for more than 6 decades. In the present time of COVID pandemic, Power generation being an essential service, NLCIL continued to generate uninterrupted power to support our nation.

While touching the business development initiatives of the Company,  he told that NLCIL business matrix is vertically integrated as well as diversified into an optimal mix of Thermal and Renewable energy generation. Now, the power generation capacity of NLCIL Group has reached  6061.06 MW (60,61,060 Units per hour) and Mining capacity is enhanced to 50.60 Million Tonnes Per Annum, he said.

When highlighting the financial performance of the company for the financial year 2020-21, he informed that NLCIL has earned a total income (Consolidated) of Rs.11798.42 Crore, as compared to Rs.11592.70 Crore of the previous year. (2019-20). He also informed that the Company is performing well in the current Financial Year (2021-22), as it has registered  highest power generation in a quarter between April and June 2021, in a month during June 2021 and in a day during June 30th, since  its inception.

He proudly announced that, in the Star rating competition organised by Ministry of Coal, Government of India for 169 Opencast Mines in the country, only four Mines have been awarded 5 Stars rating, in which Mine-I and Mine-II of NLCIL have bagged 5 Stars rating. In addition Mine-IA and Barsingsar Lignite Mine have bagged 4 Star rating.

Shri Rakesh Kumar congratulated Shri Sajan Prajash, son of Smt.V.J.Shantimole, APO, NLCIL and the son of the soil who was trained by NLCIL Swimming Coaches in Neyveli Swimming Pools and represent the Country in the Tokyo Olympics. He also appreciated Selvi Revathi Veeramani from Tamil Nadu who fought against all odds to cherish her aspiration and participated in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He appreciated all the sports personalities and teams who have made India proud in the Meet.

During the occasion, the senior most worker of NLCIL, Shri K.Murugavel, Technician Grade-IA, Central Electrical Repair Shop along with his spouse Smt.M.Parasakthi was honoured by CMD.  Shri R. Vikraman, Director (Human Resource), Shri Jaikumar Srinivasan, Director/Finance,   Shri L.Chandrasekar, CVO, NLCIL and Shri Digvijay Kumar Singh, DIG/CISF  participated in the function.

Pre-recorded cultural programmes staged by the students of St.Jospeh of Cluny Public School, Jawahar Higher Secondary School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and NLC Girls Higher Secondary School, Neyveli by following appropriate COVID-19 behaviour were telecasted during the occasion.

Senior Officials, Employees, representatives of Recognised Trade Unions, Associations representing Engineers and Officers, Welfare Associations and WIPS were also present and witnessed the celebrations. The function was organized complying covid-19 Protocols.
