NLC India Limited inks MoU with Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation

New Delhi, Oct 07: NLC India Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) on 05.10.2022 at Pondicherry to promote eco-tourism and showcase sustainable mining activities and eco-parks developed by NLCIL at Mine-I and Mine-II, Neyveli.

The MoU was signed in the august presence of N. Rangaswamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Pondicherry, K. Lakshminarayanan, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Pondicherry, T. Arun, I.A.S., Chairman PTDC & Secretary (Tourism), and Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines), NLCIL at the Pondicherry Assembly, on October 5th2022.The MoU was signed by A. Rajasekhara Reddy, ED (Mines), NLCIL and T. Balaji, Managing Director, PTDC.

NLCIL undertakes wide range of Sustainability development projects and Corporate Social Responsibility measures for the environment protection, community and rural development thus ensuring the sustainable development of the company. NLCIL believes that “Sustainable development, Environment Protection and eco-care is blended into every act of its business and activity and has become part and parcel of its existence”

In pursuance of this mission, NLCIL developed Eco Tourism Park in the de-coaled areas of Neyveli Mines. Eco Tourism park at Mine-l, Neyveliwas inaugurated on the day of Vriksharopan Abhiyan, 23.07.2020 by the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Government of India through virtual mode. Eco Tourism Park at Mine-II, Neyveli, Tamilnadu was inaugurated on the day of Vriksharopan Abhiyan, 19.08.2021 by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal, Mine and Parliamentary affairs, Government of India through virtual mode. These Eco Tourism Parks are located approximately 65 km from Puducherry.

The special features of these Eco Tourism Parks at Mine-I and Mine-II of Neyveli are as follows:

  • Boating in the Eco-Friendly artificial lake.
  • Birds watching and Afforestation area view point
  • The Rainwater harvesting ponds at reclaimed area
  • Children play area
  • Mini zoo with animals and birds like Rabbit, Dove, Love birds, etc.,
  • Spotted Deer Enclosure
  • Vehicle ride covering the Afforestation area
  • Divine plants and Special Variety Tree Garden
  • Cafeteria surrounded by lawn and ornamental plants / garden etc.,

With the above MoU, it is now planned to take further steps to attract and organize tours to Neyveli with the network and expertise of Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).
