New Delhi, Dec 22: NHPC announced the commencement of commercial operations for the second unit of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, a 250 MW unit of the total 2,000 MW capacity, starting at midnight on December 23, 2025.
The project, costing approximately Rs 27,000 crore, is located at Gerukamukh, bordering Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. NHPC confirmed successful completion of the trial run and indicated that subsequent units’ commercial operation dates will be announced later.
Once fully operational, it will be India’s largest hydroelectric station, utilizing a run-of-the-river scheme with expected annual generation of about 7,421.59 million units of electricity at 90% dependability.
