Tehran/Washington, March 01: : Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint US-Israel airstrikes, Iranian state media confirmed on Sunday, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict and potentially reshaping Iran’s political landscape.
According to Fars News Agency, four of Khamenei’s relatives — including his daughter, grandchild and son-in-law — were also killed in the strikes, citing informed sources.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the Iranian Supreme Leader had been killed, calling it the “single greatest chance” for Iranians to reclaim control of their country. Trump described the development as “Justice for the people of Iran” and claimed the operation was conducted using advanced intelligence and tracking systems in coordination with Israel.
Trump further asserted that several members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), military, and security forces were seeking immunity, warning that refusal to surrender would lead to severe consequences.
Prior to Trump’s confirmation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had indicated there were “many signs” suggesting Khamenei was no longer alive, stating that his compound had been destroyed, though he stopped short of formally confirming the death.
