Indian Railways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RailTel, a miniratna PSU under Ministry of Railways,for providing Video Surveillance System (VSS) work at 6049 stations of Category A1, A, B, C ,D& E of Indian Railways. The scope of work also includes integration of existing standalone CCTV network of Railway into VSS system for centralized monitoring and management.
Sh. Umesh Balonda, ED/Tele/Railway Board and Sh. Director/NPM, RailTel signed the MoU in presence of senior officials of Railways and RailTel.
These IP based CCTV cameras will benetworked on optical fiber cable and the video feed of the CCTV cameras will be brought to a nearest RPF Thana/Chowki control room from where the video feeds will be viewed on multiple LCD monitors by RPF personnel, enhancing the security and safety of the passengers tremendously.RailTel has already installed VSS at 215 stations across country. And another 85 stations will be commissioned by Sep’20. Railtel has also provided CCTV cameras at entry and exit of 54 Railway Stations to facilitate running of Shramik Specials.
The recording of the video feeds form CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days for playback, post event analysis and for investigation purposes. Important videos can be stored for longer duration. Apart from recording of 30 days of video feeds of cameras, inclusion analytics and Facial recognition systems are also covered in the scope of work. Command and control center for centralized viewing of video feeds and management of alerts will also be commissioned.
These cameras at station will help keeping tab of all the activities at station premises 24X7 ensuring better security of passengers at stations and Railway property.
