Railway Board Directs Expeditious Implementation of Dankuni–Surat Dedicated Freight Corridor

New Delhi, Sept 24: Punjab is set to benefit from the sanctioned Rajpura-Mohali rail line, a long-awaited project that will directly connect the Malwa region to Chandigarh, cutting travel distances by 66 km and facilitating improvements in textiles, manufacturing, and agriculture.

The line is part of a broader investment surge in rail infrastructure, with the Railway Budget increasing from ₹225 crore in 2009-14 to ₹5,421 crore in 2025-26. Other projects include a new Vande Bharat Express connecting Firozpur to Delhi, enhanced connectivity for tourism, and a Firozpur-Patti line to link border districts with Gujarat ports, all aimed at reducing logistics costs. As part of festive preparations, 12,000 special trains will be operated for Chhath and Diwali, reflecting significant improvements in service quality and punctuality across the railway network.
