India, Vietnam Upgrade Relations to Enhanced Strategic Partnership: Narendra Modi

India, Netherlands Set to Deepen Strategic Partnership During Modi Visit

New Delhi, May 06: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced the elevation of India-Vietnam ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during talks with Vietnamese President To Lam in New Delhi.

Addressing a joint press meet at Hyderabad House, PM Modi described Vietnam as a “key pillar” of India’s Act East Policy and Vision Mahasagar, underscoring the growing strategic importance of the bilateral relationship.

The Prime Minister noted that ties have expanded significantly over the past decade, spanning trade, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges. Building on this momentum, both countries agreed to further deepen engagement across multiple sectors.

Highlighting shared regional priorities, Modi said India and Vietnam have a common outlook in the Indo-Pacific and will continue to strengthen defence and security cooperation to support stability, rule of law, and prosperity in the region. He also emphasised that collaboration with Vietnam would help India broaden its engagement with Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The visit also reflected strong civilisational linkages, with President To Lam beginning his India trip from Bodh Gaya, symbolising shared cultural and spiritual heritage.

PM Modi thanked Vietnam for its support in condemning the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated both nations’ commitment to combating terrorism.

Amid global economic uncertainties, the leaders highlighted that India and Vietnam are among the fastest-growing economies, driven by reforms, governance, and human capital, positioning the partnership for sustained long-term growth.
