The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that India and China, as the world’s two largest developing countries and major members of the Global South, should play an exemplary role in promoting solidarity, self-reliance and development among emerging economies.

According to Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong, Wang Yi highlighted the importance of viewing India-China relations from both a long-term and global perspective. He noted that cooperation between the two countries could contribute significantly to their respective modernisation processes while advancing the interests of the Global South.

Wang also reiterated China’s support for India as the current BRICS Chair, expressing readiness to work closely with New Delhi to strengthen BRICS cooperation and promote the grouping’s continued growth and influence on the global stage.

The meeting followed Wang Yi’s discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting. During those talks, both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and acknowledged progress towards gradual normalisation.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong and senior officials from both countries were present during the discussions.

Addressing sensitive issues, Wang Yi emphasised the need for both countries to respect each other’s core interests and manage differences responsibly. He stated that the boundary issue should be handled appropriately so that it does not affect the overall development of bilateral relations.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also called for positive engagement between the societies of both countries, saying that strengthening public understanding and mutual trust would provide a stronger foundation for the continued improvement of India-China relations.

The high-level engagement reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to stabilise ties, expand cooperation and enhance coordination on regional and global issues, including BRICS and Global South initiatives.
