New Delhi Feb 28 India on Saturday voiced deep concern over the escalating tensions in Iran and the wider Gulf region, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise civilian safety amid rapidly evolving developments.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called for de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy. “India is deeply concerned at the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected,” the ministry said.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that Indian missions in the region are in close contact with nationals and have issued advisories asking them to remain vigilant and follow local security guidance.
The Embassy of India, Tehran advised Indian nationals in Iran to exercise utmost caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and remain indoors as far as possible. The mission urged citizens to monitor local news, maintain situational awareness, and await further guidance, while also sharing emergency contact details.
Similarly, the Embassy of India, Doha issued an “important advisory” asking Indians in Qatar to follow local alerts and remain indoors, especially away from military sites, unless absolutely necessary.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India, Dubai said they are functioning normally but advised Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel and adhere to safety advisories issued by UAE authorities. Emergency helplines, including toll-free and WhatsApp numbers, were shared for assistance.
The statements came after US President Donald Trump said American forces were carrying out a “massive and ongoing” military operation against Iran, aiming to target its missile capabilities.
As tensions intensify in the region, India’s diplomatic outreach underscores its focus on protecting its citizens abroad while advocating restraint and diplomatic resolution.
