India Protected Citizens From Global Price Shocks: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS): India’s Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, stated that the country has effectively shielded its citizens from global energy price volatility, ensuring that international disruptions do not translate into higher consumer costs.

Speaking at the conclusion of ‘India Energy Week (IEW) 2026,’ he noted that India boasts some of the lowest energy prices worldwide and provides a consistent supply during crises due to proactive measures by oil marketing companies.

Puri highlighted advancements in green energy initiatives, including compressed biogas (CBG) and green hydrogen, in addition to continued investment in traditional energy sources.

He expressed confidence in the growing role of renewable fuels alongside conventional energy. Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Ministry, projected a significant energy demand increase with an anticipated economic growth rate exceeding 7%.

He emphasized a strategic focus on enhancing domestic exploration and production, as well as establishing India as a dependable global supplier of refined energy products.

Mittal also underlined the integration of refining and petrochemicals to boost local capabilities while remaining globally competitive and noted the increasing role of technology and digitalization in optimizing costs and operational resilience.
