New Delhi June 12: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Thursday assured citizens that the supply of LPG, petrol and diesel remains stable across the country despite global supply chain disruptions arising from the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to an official update, approximately 1.49 crore domestic LPG cylinders were delivered during the last three days against bookings of around 1.40 crore cylinders, demonstrating the robustness of India’s fuel distribution network.
The ministry emphasized that no LPG distributorship across the country has reported a dry-out situation, ensuring uninterrupted cooking gas availability for households.
To improve efficiency and transparency, online LPG booking adoption has reached nearly 99 per cent, while Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based deliveries have increased to about 96 per cent. The DAC system, which sends a verification code to consumers’ registered mobile numbers, is helping prevent diversion and unauthorized distribution of subsidized LPG cylinders.
In parallel, the government has accelerated the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure.
Since March 2026, around 9.42 lakh PNG connections have been activated, while infrastructure has been established for an additional 3.12 lakh connections, taking the total potential coverage to 12.54 lakh connections.
The Centre has urged states and Union Territories to encourage LPG consumers to migrate to PNG wherever network infrastructure is available. Additionally, approximately 9.44 lakh consumers have already registered for new PNG connections.
On the transportation fuel front, the ministry said adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available at retail outlets nationwide.
However, certain regions have witnessed unusually high demand and crowding at fuel stations due to concerns arising from the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
Despite rising international crude oil prices triggered by the crisis, the Government of India has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre to protect consumers from the impact of global price volatility.
To prevent hoarding, black marketing and supply manipulation, oil marketing companies and public sector oil firms have intensified surprise inspections across the country.
The ministry revealed that 19 LPG distributorships have been penalized for irregularities during the last three days.
In addition, 14 fuel retail outlets have faced penalties, while 461 petrol pumps have been suspended for violating market discipline guidelines.
The government reiterated that all refineries are operating at high capacity and maintaining sufficient crude oil inventories to meet domestic demand.
Local LPG production at refineries has also been increased to support household consumption and ensure uninterrupted supplies across all regions.
Citizens have been advised to avoid panic purchases of LPG cylinders, petrol or diesel and to rely only on official government communications for updates regarding fuel availability.
The ministry also encouraged LPG consumers to continue using digital booking platforms rather than visiting distributors physically, thereby improving efficiency and reducing crowding.
India’s fuel supply system remains stable despite global uncertainties caused by the Middle East conflict. With adequate stocks of LPG, petrol and diesel, expanded PNG infrastructure, increased refinery production and strict action against hoarding and black marketing, the government has assured citizens that energy supplies remain secure and uninterrupted across the country.
