New Delhi, June 05: Amid growing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the government has stepped up measures to safeguard fuel supplies and ensure uninterrupted access to cooking gas for households across the country.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Thursday that approximately 1.43 crore domestic LPG cylinders were delivered against bookings of around 1.50 crore cylinders during the last three days, demonstrating the resilience of the country’s fuel distribution network despite global uncertainties.
Government Prioritises Domestic LPG Supply
According to the ministry, domestic LPG consumers continue to receive uninterrupted supplies as authorities prioritize household requirements amid concerns over potential disruptions in global energy markets.
Officials stated that no LPG distributorships across the country have reported dry-outs, indicating that supply chains remain stable and inventory levels are being managed effectively.
The government emphasized that ensuring fuel availability for households remains a top priority as it closely monitors developments in West Asia.
Online LPG Bookings Reach 99%
The ministry reported a sharp increase in digital adoption within the LPG distribution ecosystem.
Industry-wide online bookings surged to nearly 99 percent during the last 24 hours, reflecting the growing use of digital platforms by consumers for accessing essential services.
Officials noted that the shift toward online booking systems has helped improve efficiency and transparency in LPG distribution while reducing operational bottlenecks.
DAC-Based Deliveries Expanded to Prevent Diversion
To strengthen supply chain integrity, oil marketing companies have expanded the use of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based deliveries.
According to the ministry, DAC-enabled deliveries now account for approximately 96 percent of total LPG deliveries.
Under the system, a unique authentication code is sent to the registered mobile number of the consumer and must be verified before the cylinder is handed over. The mechanism is designed to prevent diversion and ensure that subsidized LPG reaches intended beneficiaries.
Commercial LPG Allocation Rationalised
On the commercial LPG front, the government has introduced temporary allocation controls to optimize availability.
Authorities have capped total commercial LPG allocation at 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, including a 10 percent reform-linked component.
The move is intended to balance demand across sectors while ensuring adequate supplies for essential and priority users.
Strong Sales of Small Cylinders and Auto LPG
During the last three days, approximately 1.57 lakh five-kilogram Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders were sold across the country.
In addition, nearly 9,200 cylinders were distributed through around 520 special camps organized to improve accessibility for consumers.
Public sector oil marketing companies also reported sales of:
- 19,372 metric tonnes of commercial LPG
- 649 metric tonnes of Auto LPG
The figures indicate continued demand and stable supply across domestic, commercial, and transportation segments.
Fuel Security Measures Amid Global Uncertainty
Officials said the latest initiatives form part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening fuel security, maintaining critical supply chains, and protecting consumers from disruptions arising from international geopolitical developments.
The government continues to monitor global energy markets and coordinate with oil marketing companies to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential petroleum products nationwide.
