New Delhi, June 12: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a clean sweep in the Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh, with all four alliance candidates being elected unopposed after the withdrawal of nominations concluded on Thursday.

The Returning Officer officially declared Sana Sathish Babu, Bhashyam Ramakrishna and Vijay Chintakayala of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with Lingamaneni Ramesh of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), elected to the Upper House without contest.

As no other candidates filed nominations and all four NDA nominees remained in the fray after the withdrawal deadline, the scheduled Rajya Sabha elections on June 18 became unnecessary.

The vacancies arose due to the retirement of Rajya Sabha members Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, Pilli Subhas Chandra Bose of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), and Sana Sathish Babu of the TDP.

Sana Sathish Babu has now secured a second term in the Rajya Sabha. A businessman-turned-politician and close associate of TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh, Sathish Babu had earlier been elected in a by-election held in December 2024 following the resignation of YSRCP leader Mopidevi Venkataramana.

Among the newly elected members, Bhashyam Ramakrishna is a prominent education entrepreneur and founder of the Bhashyam educational institutions, which operate extensively across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Ramakrishna had previously sought a Lok Sabha ticket from Guntur during the 2024 general elections but was not nominated by the party.

Vijay Chintakayala, son of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, represents the younger generation of TDP leaders and is regarded as being close to Nara Lokesh.

Belonging to the backward classes community from north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Vijay had also aspired for a Lok Sabha ticket from Anakapalli in 2024. However, the constituency was allotted to the BJP under the NDA seat-sharing arrangement.

A significant milestone was achieved by the Jana Sena Party, led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, with the election of Lingamaneni Ramesh, marking the party’s debut representation in the Rajya Sabha.

Ramesh has been associated with the Jana Sena Party since 2015 and is considered a key supporter of the party’s organizational growth.

The uncontested victory highlights the NDA’s dominant political position in Andhra Pradesh following its landslide victory in the 2024 Assembly elections.

In the 175-member Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the TDP currently holds 135 seats, while its alliance partners Jana Sena Party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hold 21 and 8 seats respectively.

In contrast, the YSR Congress Party’s strength has been reduced to 11 MLAs, leaving it unable to challenge the NDA’s numerical advantage in the Rajya Sabha elections.

The outcome further strengthens the NDA’s presence in the Rajya Sabha and reflects the coalition’s continued dominance in Andhra Pradesh politics.

The unopposed election of four NDA candidates to the Rajya Sabha underscores the alliance’s overwhelming political strength in Andhra Pradesh. While TDP secured three seats, Jana Sena achieved a historic milestone by sending its first member to the Upper House, further consolidating the NDA’s influence both in the state and at the national level.
