New Delhi, Nov 04: India could see hydrogen serve as an alternative to natural gas within five to ten years due to its decreasing prices, aiding decarbonisation efforts, according to Union Steel Secretary Sandeep Poundrik.
He emphasized the potential of the DRI plus hydrogen method for green steel production and highlighted the steel industry’s growth, driven by demands from various sectors. India aims to enhance its steel-making capacity to 500 million tonnes by 2047, with 47% of steel produced by small and medium enterprises.
The Ministry of Steel is collaborating with the Ministry of Coal to ensure self-reliance in coking coal supply and is implementing Quality Control Orders to maintain industry standards.
