EU Chief Ursula Von Der Leyen arrives in India for Republic Day as Chief Guest

New Delhi, Jan 25 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in India on Saturday on a State Visit and will attend India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations as Chief Guest, along with European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa. She was received by Minister of State Jitin Prasada.

The visit marks a significant moment in India–EU relations amid growing strategic engagement. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit would help chart the next phase of the India–EU Strategic Partnership.

Earlier, EU High Representative and Vice-President Kaja Kallas arrived in New Delhi on her first official visit, with the MEA calling it timely for strengthening bilateral ties.

The EU leaders will meet President Droupadi Murmu, hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and co-chair the 16th India–EU Summit on January 27. An India–EU Business Forum is also expected, highlighting the focus on economic cooperation and trade.
