DDWS Adopts Seva Sankalp Resolution to Strengthen Citizen-Centric Rural Governance

New Delhi, Mar 01 The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under Ministry of Jal Shakti (DDWS) has adopted the Seva Sankalp Resolution, reaffirming its commitment to citizen-first governance and last-mile service delivery in rural India.

The Resolution follows the vision articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister at the first Union Cabinet meeting at “Seva Teerth,” emphasising governance rooted in service, accountability, and dedication to citizens. In a meeting chaired by Secretary Shri Ashok K.K. Meena on 2 March 2026, DDWS officials resolved to translate this vision into measurable outcomes on the ground.

At the heart of the Resolution is a simple commitment: ensure every rural household receives safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services with dignity and transparency.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Department will continue working towards universal rural tap water coverage. Complementing this, the Swachh Bharat Mission–Grameen will drive sustained cleanliness and sanitation practices through community participation and behavioural change.

The Department also pledged to strengthen Gram Panchayats, reinforce accountability to Gram Sabhas, and ensure prudent use of public resources so that every rupee delivers maximum value to citizens.

By adopting the Seva Sankalp, DDWS has reaffirmed its focus on improving ease of living, empowering local institutions, and ensuring equitable access to essential water and sanitation services for rural communities.
