Centre steps up push for deep-sea fishing, Blue Economy

New Delhi, Feb 05: The Ministry of Cooperation, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, is promoting small-scale fishermen’s participation in deep-sea fishing and value-chain development through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), backed by a funding of Rs 20,050 crore for FY 2020-21.

This initiative aims to empower traditional fishers by providing financial support for acquiring and upgrading deep-sea vessels, and enhancing fishing cooperatives and Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs).

Additionally, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) allocates Rs 7,522.48 crore for fishery infrastructure, offering concessional finance for facilities like fishing harbors and cold chain systems to bolster coastal livelihoods and sustainable resource management.
