Centre Announces Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle Across Key Ministries
New Delhi, March 31 The Centre on Tuesday carried out a significant reshuffle at the top bureaucratic level, appointing new Secretaries across crucial ministries including Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoCF)
In a key move, Chanchal Kumar, currently Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, has been appointed Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) He replaces Sanjay Jaju, who will now take over Kumar’s previous role.
Sanjay Lohiya has been appointed Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance (MoF). He succeeds Nagaraju Maddirala, who is set to retire on May 31, 2026.
In the tourism sector, Bhuvnesh Kumar, former CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India, has been named Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, replacing Srivatsa Krishna. Krishna has been reassigned as Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), succeeding Chandra Sekhar Kumar, who will now serve as CEO of the National Rainfed Area Authority in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW).
At the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoCF) Tejveer Singh has taken over as Secretary from Nivedita Shukla Verma. Verma has been appointed Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPPGP) and will also hold additional charge of the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare.
Further, Narendra Bhooshan has been named Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) while Rohit Kansal will take over as Secretary, Department of Rural Development, replacing the retiring Shailesh Kumar Singh.
Bharat Harbanslal Khera has been appointed Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the rank of Secretary. He will succeed Subhas Chandra Lal Das upon his retirement on April 30.
In another key appointment, Abhishek Singh has been named Director General of the National Testing Agency under the Ministry of Education (MoE), in the rank of Secretary.
Additionally, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved in-situ upgradation of Sanjay Rastogi and Sajjan Singh Yadav to the level of Special Secretary in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government.
The reshuffle is aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and ensuring leadership continuity across key sectors.
