NFR Records Strong FY26 Performance with Focus on Connectivity and Modernisation
New Delhi, April 01: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reported significant progress in FY 2025–26, driven by network expansion, operational efficiency, and infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening connectivity across the Northeast.
As part of its expansion strategy, NFR introduced 20 pairs of new train services, spanning premium, semi-premium, and conventional categories, enhancing regional and national connectivity.
Operational efficiency improved with speed enhancements across 35 trains, resulting in cumulative travel time savings of 675 minutes. The zone also achieved 100% electrification, aligning with Indian Railways’s sustainability goals and improving overall capacity utilisation.
A major milestone was the commissioning of the Bairabi–Sairang line in Mizoram, which has witnessed strong passenger demand, with several services reporting over 100% occupancy.
Freight operations gained traction, with increased movement of commodities such as cement, automobiles, and construction materials. Key developments included the first inward automobile rake at Sairang, freight operations at Molvom in Nagaland, and full-rake loading at Mendipathar in Meghalaya, boosting regional trade and logistics efficiency.
On the infrastructure front, NFR advanced modernisation initiatives, including the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express connecting Howrah and Guwahati, alongside new Amrit Bharat and LHB-equipped trains. The commissioning of the Murkongselek–Sille section is set to further improve connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh.
Station redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is also progressing, with stations such as Haibargaon in Assam and Kamakhyaguri in West Bengal being upgraded with modern, passenger-friendly facilities.
Beyond operations, NFR has strengthened social infrastructure by upgrading railway hospitals and enhancing educational facilities, reflecting a broader focus on employee welfare and inclusive regional development.
