New Delhi, Dec 05 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita to visiting President Vladimir Putin, calling the timeless scripture a wellspring of inspiration for people around the globe.
Sharing a photograph of the moment on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world.” In the image, both leaders are seen holding the book as PM Modi hands it over to the Russian President.
PM Modi’s gesture underscored the universal resonance of the Gita’s teachings—an idea he has often highlighted on international platforms. The Russian-language edition is among many global translations of the text that continue to find readers in spiritual, academic and cultural circles.
Earlier in the evening, the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg was illuminated and adorned with Indian and Russian flags as Modi welcomed President Putin for a private dinner. Notably, the two leaders travelled together in the same car from the airport, after PM Modi received the Russian President on the tarmac in a special protocol-breaking gesture. Their warm hug and friendly exchange reaffirmed the long-standing camaraderie between the two nations.
“Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin, to India. Looking forward to our interactions later this evening and tomorrow. India-Russia friendship is a time-tested one that has greatly benefitted our people,” PM Modi posted on X.
The leaders also paused to enjoy a brief cultural performance during the welcome ceremony, applauding the artists before proceeding for the evening’s engagements.
