REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) to establish a ground-mounted, grid-connected 1 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at the institute’s campus in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. The project marks another significant step towards expanding clean energy infrastructure in India’s education sector.
The agreement was signed by Jaspal Singh Kushwaha, General Manager, RECPDCL, and Dr. M. Sundaramari, Registrar, Gandhigram Rural Institute, in the presence of Prof. Dr. N. Panchanatham, Vice-Chancellor, GRI, and Thara Ramesh, Head of Department & CPM, REC Regional Office, Chennai, along with senior officials from both organisations.
Once commissioned, the 1 MW solar power plant will meet the entire electricity requirement of Gandhigram Rural Institute, allowing the campus to operate on 100% green energy. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce dependence on conventional electricity while lowering the institute’s overall carbon footprint.
Beyond clean energy generation, the project will function as a demonstration facility showcasing different solar photovoltaic technologies.
