REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) to strengthen quality assurance and testing mechanisms for materials used under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The agreement was signed at REC’s Corporate Office in Gurugram on Tuesday.
The MoU was signed by Yogendra Singh, GM & HoD of PMD Quality, REC, and M.G. Anandakumar, Joint Director (BD & CBS Division), CPRI. The ceremony was attended by Prince Dhawan, IAS, Executive Director (PMD), REC, Dr. Neha Adhikari, Joint Director, CPRI, along with senior officials from both organisations.
Through this strategic collaboration, REC and CPRI will jointly undertake independent third-party quality testing of materials supplied for RDSS projects. The initiative is designed to ensure that equipment and components consistently meet prescribed technical specifications and quality standards before deployment.
The partnership also includes technical consultancy, capacity-building programmes, knowledge sharing, and the development of robust quality assurance frameworks. These measures are expected to enhance project monitoring, improve implementation practices, and strengthen accountability across distribution sector projects.
By introducing stronger quality control processes, the collaboration will contribute to higher operational reliability, improved infrastructure performance, and greater consumer confidence in India’s power distribution system. It also supports the Government of India’s vision of creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable electricity distribution network through RDSS
The REC-CPRI partnership marks a significant milestone in strengthening quality assurance, technical excellence, and infrastructure reliability, reinforcing the successful implementation of RDSS across the country.
