New Delhi, May 30: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed a sharp weather shift on Saturday evening as rain, thunderstorms and strong winds swept across several areas, bringing relief from persistent heat and humidity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert ahead of the weather activity, forecasting rainfall, lightning and gusty winds across the region.
According to the latest forecast, pleasant weather conditions are likely to continue across Delhi-NCR until June 4, with temperatures expected to remain below normal due to the influence of a western disturbance and local weather systems.
The rainfall brought a noticeable drop in temperatures after days of uncomfortable weather. IMD forecasts indicate intermittent thunderstorms, light-to-moderate rainfall and strong winds over the coming days.
On Saturday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius, while wind speeds during thunderstorms were expected to reach 40–50 kmph.
Similar conditions are likely to persist on May 31, with rain and thunderstorms forecast and temperatures expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius.
From June 1 onward, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures gradually rising toward 38–39 degrees Celsius, although weather experts believe conditions will remain relatively moderate compared to recent heat levels.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds reaching up to 90 kmph may affect some areas. Citizens have been urged to avoid open spaces, weak structures and sheltering under trees during adverse weather.
Officials said all concerned agencies remain on alert to manage potential disruptions caused by changing weather conditions, including traffic congestion and localised waterlogging.
The weather shift is expected to provide continued heat relief for residents across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, with the cooler spell likely to persist for the next four to five days.
