Govt Slashes Airport Charges by 25% to Curb Airfare Rise

India Alerts Airlines Amid Israel Iran Conflict ; Airports on Standby for Flight Diversions

New Delhi, April 8 The government has reduced landing and parking charges for domestic airlines by 25% for three months to help contain airfares amid rising fuel costs.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the move will lower airline costs by around ₹400 crore across major airports.

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has been directed to implement the cut at major airports, while the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will apply similar reductions at non-major airports. Any revenue gap will be adjusted in future tariff cycles.

The decision comes as ATF prices have surged globally due to West Asia tensions. The government aims to support airlines and maintain affordable fares, in line with the vision of Narendra Modi.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said it will continue to monitor the situation and take further steps if required.
