Govt Calls All-Party Meet to Discuss West Asia Crisis Today

New Delhi, March 25: The Government of India will convene an all-party meeting to brief political leaders on the evolving crisis in West Asia, amid growing concerns over its economic and security implications.

Scheduled at the Parliament of India complex, the meeting will be chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expected to brief leaders on recent developments and India’s diplomatic response.

The initiative follows remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described the situation as an “unprecedented crisis” with long-term implications. The conflict, now in its fourth week, has disrupted key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to volatility in global energy markets and raising concerns over supply chains and inflation.

Opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, have called for a detailed parliamentary discussion. In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the government’s decision to opt for a briefing rather than a full debate.

Similarly, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, raised concerns over India’s foreign policy approach, though he indicated he would be unable to attend the meeting due to prior commitments.

The development follows a high-level security review chaired by Rajnath Singh, attended by Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and senior officials including Samir V. Kamat.

As geopolitical tensions intensify and their global impact deepens, the all-party meeting is expected to serve as a critical platform for building political consensus and shaping India’s strategic response to the crisis.
