India Taps Multiple Energy Sources to Offset Middle East Risks: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi, March 11: India is securing its energy supplies by diversifying crude oil and gas import sources beyond West Asia, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday, assuring that domestic fuel availability remains stable despite geopolitical tensions in the region.

Speaking during an informal interaction with the media, the minister said India’s energy imports continue to arrive through multiple sources and supply routes, helping maintain stability in the country’s fuel supply chain even amid disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East.

According to Puri, the government has taken proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of key fuels for households and priority sectors.

Domestic consumers continue to receive 100% supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG), while industries are currently receiving around 70–80% of their gas requirements despite supply challenges.

In a post on X (Twitter), the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted and affordable energy supplies for households across the country.

“There is no shortage for domestic consumers and there is no reason to panic,” Puri said, adding that authorities are closely monitoring global developments to safeguard India’s energy security.

The diversification strategy is part of India’s broader effort to reduce dependence on traditional supply routes and enhance energy resilience amid rising global geopolitical uncertainties.
