NLCIL has always been at the forefront towards the improvement of the standard of living for its communities, as part of this, the company has added another milestone to the upgradation of the environment in Neyveli Township, when Shri R. Vikraman, Director(HR) inaugurated the Solid Waste Management Project in the presence of Shri T.Venkatasubramanian , CVO,NLCIL on03.05.2018 at Jawahar Higher Secondary School, Block-5,Neyveli
Solid Waste Mismanagement not only presents a tragic eye sore but also significantly contaminates the soil, water and air and is a major public health hazard to everyone living around the dumping sites,
In this backdrop, NLC India has proposed to introduce a pilot project under Swachh Bharat Mission for collection of daily wastes generated in residential/commercial/institutions etc. in blocks 5, 6 & 7 from door to door in segregated manner for further processing by involving M/s.Srinivas Waste Management Services (P) Ltd, Chennai (SWMS) with a Value of Rs. 94.55 Lakhs for a contract period of 1 year.
The objective of this initiative is to maximize waste recovery through sustainable use of biodegradable waste, recycling of waste thereby aiming to minimize waste disposal and composting of degradable wastes at the source itself to convert the wastes into organic manure.
The Solid Waste Management Programme undertaken by the company has a focused strategy which includes – conducting an assessment of the area, training waste management, raising public awareness and lastly collection and segregation of waste.
As part of this project this agency will provide dust bin in Green color to dump house hold wastes like Bio ,flower, Food, fruits, egg shell,vegetable garden waste ,meat etc.. & Blue color dustbin for waste like Paper,metal ,Rubber,Plastic items Wood,Card Board,water Bottles etc.. and a bag to collect electronic wastage like battery Cells, cell phones etc .Employees of SWMS will collect garbage every day from door to door, also ,Horticulture wastes from residential premises for further processing.
On implementation of the project public shall not throw any type of waste on the street and the entire wastes shall be handed over to the green worker only.
In his Inaugural address, Shri R. Vikraman,Director (HR),NLCIL said, NLCIL always aims to provide supportive and healthy environment.
The most obvious environmental damage caused by solid waste is to the aesthetics and ambience of public areas where the waste litters. He appealed all the NLCIL community, especially for 5, 6 & 7 blocks residents to bring change in their attitudes and behaviors towards importance of managing the waste and create a healthy environment in the community and become role model to other blocks in the Township.
Shri T.Venkatasubramanian, CVO , appreciated NLCIL management for bringing this project .He envisions a pollution free and trash free township and all can work together to bring this to realization.
To mark the occasion, Director (HR) & CVO of NLCIL formally distributed the green &Blue colur dustbins to residents of 5,6&7 blocks and flagged off the solid waste collection vehicles.
Shri R. Mohan ,CGM/CSR , Shri M.Karthikeyan ,CGM/TA , Shri Raghavan, CGM/Vigilance senior officials , Shri Premnath, Project Engineer of M/s.Srinivas Waste Management Services , employees and residents of 5,6 & 7 block participated the programme.
