
New Delhi, Nov 02 Neyveli Lignite Corporation for its commendable performance in completing the target of construction of 1414 toilet blocks in various schools of Tamil and Rajasthan States within stipulated timeframe was felicitated byShri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal, Power and New & Renewable energy during the “ Felicitation Ceremony” for the Successful completion of construction of school toilets under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan held at Air force Auditorium , New Delhi on 02/11/2015.
On this Occasion Shri. S.K .Acharya CMD, NLC along with Shri. Rakesh Kumar, Director Finance, Shri. N.Muthu, Executive Director (HR), and officials from CSR cell of NLC were honoured with a certificate of appreciation by Hon’ble Minister.
“Clean India Movement” (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan), was launched on 2nd October, 2014 by our Hon’ble Prime Minister. Under this scheme, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan , construction of toilet blocks in schools, especially for girls students have been taken up by one and all under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Ministry was committed to construct a total of 1 Lac Toilets in Government Schools within one year. The programme was launched countrywide on 2nd October 2014 by the participating CPSUs namely NTPC, REC, PGCIL, PFC, NHPC, SJVNL, THDC, NEEPCO, CIL, NLC and IREDA.
NLC was given a target of 1274 toilets in the states of (1130 toilets 635 Schools in Tamil Nadu and144 Toilets in 77 Schools in Rajasthan), by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, for a total estimate of Rs.26.82 Crores within Scheduled date of August’2015. NLC exceeded the target constructing additional toilets numbering 140, and the total being 1414. Out of this, 1270 toilets were constructed in 635 Schools in 30 Districts of Tamil Nadu and 144 toilets in 77 schools of Rajasthan in two Districts. The total awarded value is about Rs.39 Crores , under CSR budget (each toilet costing about Rs.2.70 Lakhs).
