New Delhi, Nov 21: India, the second-largest fish producer globally, has seen its fish production rise from 9.6 million tonnes in 2013-14 to 19.5 million tonnes in 2024-25, with a significant boost in sustainability and livelihoods emphasized on World Fisheries Day, observed on November 21.
This year’s theme, “India’s Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports,” highlights the sector’s role in food security and its contribution to 30 million livelihoods, particularly in coastal regions.
Successful GST 2.0 reforms aim to reduce rates on seafood products, enhancing affordability and competitiveness in global markets. India accounts for nearly 8% of worldwide fish output, with substantial growth supported by government initiatives and investment, signaling a commitment to sustainable development in the fisheries sector.
