‘Jaago’ initiative equips Class 9–10 girls with skills in robotics, AI and green technologies
Pune, January 17 UNESCO in collaboration with the Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), organised a two-day workshop titled “Jaago: Girls Leading STEM for Sustainable Futures” to make STEM education more relevant to girls’ daily lives and career aspirations.
The workshop trained 60 girls from government schools in Classes 9 and 10 through hands-on sessions in Robotics, Green Skills and Artificial Intelligence, and Health and Well-Being. Held at SSPU, the programme combined STEM awareness, mentorship and practical learning.
Guided by mentors, students explored emerging career pathways in fields such as EVs, AI, logistics, marketing and healthcare, while also learning about sustainability, nutrition and the green economy. Participants were introduced to scholarship opportunities and support systems to pursue higher education in STEM.
The initiative aligns with UNESCO’s efforts to address gender gaps in STEM education and careers. In India, women make up 43 per cent of STEM graduates but only 27 per cent of the STEM workforce, highlighting the need for targeted interventions.
