New Delhi, Dec 06: Indian Railways has implemented extensive measures to address the surge in passenger demand due to a rise in flight cancellations.
To enhance travel comfort and accommodation availability, 37 trains have been augmented with 116 additional coaches, resulting in over 114 additional trips nationwide.
Southern Railway has made the most augmentations, enhancing 18 trains by deploying additional Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on high-demand routes starting from 6 December 2025.
In comparison, Northern Railway has increased capacity on eight trains by adding 3AC and Chair Car coaches, while Western Railway has augmented four heavily travelled trains with 3AC and 2AC coaches, also effective from 6 December 2025.
East Central Railway has strengthened the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi service with extra 2AC coaches for five trips between 6–10 December 2025, catering to the Bihar–Delhi corridor.
East Coast Railway has increased coach capacity on Bhubaneswar–New Delhi services over five trips, improving connectivity between Odisha and the capital. Eastern Railway has added Sleeper Class coaches to three trains over six trips on 7–8 December 2025 to meet inter-state travel demands.
Meanwhile, Northeast Frontier Railway has augmented two trains with 3AC and Sleeper coaches for eight trips from 6–13 December 2025. Indian Railways is also introducing four special train services to further support passenger transportation, including the Gorakhpur – Anand Vihar Terminal Special and a Vande Bharat Special to Jammu, both scheduled for early December 2025.
These measures underscore Indian Railways’ dedication to facilitating travel and ensuring sufficient accommodation during peak demand periods.
