New Delhi, March 11: RailTel Corporation of India Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a ₹155.20 crore contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited to implement a National Unified Network Management System (N-UNMS) aimed at strengthening monitoring and management of critical communication networks across India’s power sector.
The N-UNMS will function as a centralized digital platform designed to monitor, manage and optimise large-scale communication networks through a single interface.
The system will enable integrated visibility of geographically dispersed network infrastructure, facilitating faster fault detection, improved reliability and efficient management of national communication networks.
As part of the project, primary and backup network management centres will be established at Manesar and Nagpur, respectively. The platform will also integrate with existing regional network management systems to create a unified national network monitoring framework.
The project will be implemented over an 18-month period, followed by a seven-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), including a one-year defect liability period to ensure long-term operational stability and technical support.
RailTel will deploy an advanced software-defined network management platform capable of monitoring multi-vendor and multi-technology communication networks. The system will support real-time performance monitoring, automated configuration management and fault analysis, enabling proactive maintenance and efficient network operations for the national power grid communication infrastructure.
Commenting on the development, Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, said the order from Power Grid reflects confidence in the company’s ability to deliver critical digital infrastructure for national networks.
He noted that the project involves building a unified platform to monitor and manage large-scale communication networks across the power sector, adding that RailTel remains committed to supporting national infrastructure initiatives through secure and technology-driven network solutions that strengthen India’s digital backbone.
